| Comments | Kazuya Minekura is definitely something unique. Not quite shoujo, not quite shounen, she’s definitely an acquired tasted. I must admit, when I first saw the artwork for Saiyuki, I wasn’t too impressed. Sharp angles, gaunt features and strange colouring (also not a single female in sight!!!) Yet, the art style grew on me, and as I flip through this postcard book, I’m slowly beginning to appreciate the differences from the “norm.”
If you want a good introduction to Kazuya Minekura’s artwork, see if you can get your hands on this post card book. With 32 cards of illustrations, it’s well worth the price. The presentation of the cards is excellent too; many post card books are difficult to look at due to the nature of their binding, but this book is great because you don’t have to worry about breaking the cards away from the book accidentally.
The 3 page afterward by the artist is an added bonus, although it’s in Japanese! Would recommend this to everyone, although anyone hoping to find females will be sadly dissapointed. The only female I see in this book is a somewhat gaunt lady who looks like she needs a good feed ~_~ |
