Comments I grew up watching Sailor Moon at 7AM on television, just before getting ready for school. We used to end up setting the video recorder on, just so we didn’t miss anything! The series has long held a special place in my heart even though I have moved on to other series and artists. When I realised that there were artbooks collecting together the artwork from the series I thought that I’d never be able to source these rare and hard to find books!
Thank god for JPQueen ;)

This first collection of Sailor Moon artwork by Naoko Takeuchi collects together images that most Western fans are familiar with; many used for covers of the manga released by TokyoPop.
Page after page of gorgeous artwork of all the main cast from the first season of Sailor Moon. You will not find any images of characters from the Negaverse though (bar a few) but hey, I’m sure you can live with that! Naoko Takeuchi is (in my opinion) the epitome of a shoujo manga artist. Her style exudes the “girly” aspect of shoujo so well, and the images within this book are no exception (N.B. all illustrations are “manga-esque in style drawn by Naoko Takeuchi, there are no anime related artwork.) Images are printed on a thick gloss paper, some full page spreads, others double and very few pages have more than 1 image on them. Unfortunately you cannot see on the scan of the cover below, but the lettering is done in a gold embossed method.

Considering the cover price of this book, you get a good selection of images presented in a very nice format. It’s a shame that this book has been long out of print; these days you may end up paying quite a bit for the Japanese edition. Please note, there is a licensed Chinese version of this artbook but it is in softcover. There is also a “hardback” version floating around on eBay thats being sold rather cheaply. The quality of artwork is not good and these books are probably bootlegs.

A must for fans of the artist and series :)
