Comments This is as the title describes it, a collection of rough sketches and drawing Oki has done upto the year 1999. This includes fan art she has done for ‘Interview with the Vampire’ as well as series such as Rurouni Kenshin (2 pages) G-Gundan (2 pages) Matentei Conan (1 page) K.O.F (1 page) Street Fighter II & Zero (3 pages) as well as others I cannot recognise.
Also included are sketches from works she has done – Ja Dou, Arty Square, Asgard & Vartrag Tale. There are other miscellaneous sketches which I do not recognise, but all the sketches are beautiful! All the images in this book are accompanied by notes, I really wish I could read them, but I doubt they are necessary to enjoy the artwork. The packaging is neat and kinda cute, with the paper used for the cover resembling “corrugated cardboard.”

If you’ve ever seen her manga, or her colour artwork, you’ll know just how beautiful her work is… and even though this is a collection of ‘rough’ work, the sketches are lovely and portray some of her characters in rather amusing poses. Her portrayal of Lestat, Louis and Claudia from ‘Interview with the Vampire’ are just stunning (I wish Tom Cruise looked that good as Lestat!)

As a collection of an artist’s sketch work, this book is lovely, but I cannot give this anything other than average rating… because as an artbook, it falls short, as there are no colour images and this book did cost me quite a bit! Would highly recommend this to Mamiya Oki fans, or those of you who are jaded and looking for a little bit different ;)
