| Comments | Not really an artbook, but definitely a good example of Shirow’s art at the time. Unlike most of his other works, Shirow was heavily involved with the making of the Black Magic M-66 OVA. Unfortunately the experience was not a good one for him, and he has not been involved in any adaptations of his work since then. Throughout the book you find sketches of characters, the M-66, mechs, vehicles, weapons and other items used through the movie; drawn in Shirow’s unique style. It’s interesting seeing just how much his style has changed since then!
Content-wise, this book can only get an average rating because as an artbook, it’s not that great. One of the two illustrations found in this book can be found in the Intron Depot 1 artbook, and Intron Depot 1 definitely has a better selection of Black Magic artwork in it. Buy that book instead of this, if you want artwork by Shirow for the Black Magic manga. If you want artwork from the anime, this is your best bet. |
