Comments A doujinshi artbook put together by artists who were already famous at the time of printing, this was a “must buy” for me when I first came across it, as it contained information and work by 4 of my favourite manga-ka, Yun Kouga, Kazushi Hagiwara, Yumi Tamura, Naoko Takeuchi; and an introduction to a new and aspiring artist, Tatsuneko.

The colour section of this book is sectioned off per artist, showcaseing images done by each artist; with about 3 to 5 images per page, before moving onto the monochrome pages which contain a Question & Answer section with each artist, as well as further artwork by the artist in monochrome (and in this case a light blue paper, with black ink.)
The colour section of the book is printed on a thick glossy paper, very classy for a simple doujin work (but then again, these aren’t simple artists!) and the monochrome pages are pretty sturdy, stuff you’d find in the black & white section of “published” artbooks.

None of the artwork in here is new, if you own any of the artbooks created by these artists, you’ll have the art already (except perhaps Naoko Takeuchi’s rare doujin artbook “Infinity”…) yes indeed, there are some images in 5NIN that are from Infinity.
This book is definitely for devout fans of any, or all these artists; especially if you can find one in good condition, and being sold at a reasonable price.

p.s. Tatsuneko, while new to me, definitely has a style that appeals. A mixture of Hiroyuki Utatane and Naoko Takeuchi’s style, it’s interesting and appealing, and I am sure this artist has progressed a long way since this book was printed. If anyone knows anything more about Tatsuneko, or this particular doujinshi artbook (5NIN) please contact me with details!
