| Comments | While not the most prolific of artists, Tsuruta’s style is definitely one of the most visually stunning and unique. His soft distinctive drawing style, and amazing use of colour provide a visual feast for almost everyone to enjoy. He is different from the bog standard manga-ka in ways you could only appreciate upon viewing his art work.
Comet has fewer pages than it’s sister ‘Hydrogen’ artbook, but it is still on par to it due to the nature of the illustrations contained within. As the name suggests, the artwork is quite “science fiction” and “fantasy” in theme, although not in the brash harsh way, but in a softer, more surreal manner. Page after page of full colour, detailed illustrations useing a range of mediums from water colours, oil paints, pencils and acrylics. The book itself is presented in a manner that all artbooks should be presented in. Hardcover, well bound, thick slightly glossy pages and seperator pages that are actually textured to the feel. The whole colour scheme of “dark blue” even matches the theme of the book! That much attention to detail, and the content of the book earns it an automatic ‘excellent’ rating, add to the fact that the price is good for what you get!
A great book for any fan of the artist, and anyone who loves fine art. |
