| Comments | This is a huge book by any standards, and while it is only 191 x 210mm, the number of pages makes it an artbook unlike few others. The content too, is something that you won’t often find in other Japanese artbooks. Dark, suggestive, violent, surreal and just plain mad to be honest… if the darker side of human nature could be depicted in pictoral form, I think Terada does it perfectly in this book. Giger and Yoshitaka Amano would be proud.
This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. In fact, if images of girls dressed in constricting apparel, men with appendages growing out of their body (where it shouldn’t) and monstrous creatures brought out from the most wild/sick of imaginations puts you off, do not buy this book! One thing I love about Terada is his range. His ability to draw such dark and morbid images, and his ability to then draw bright, colourful and (almost) happy images! Most Western fans are lured in by his buxom wenchs in ‘out there’ costumes, and yes, you’ll find plenty of that in this book too; but you’ll also find strange mutations of organics and mecha, you’ll find angels and demons and men/women both strong and weak. Style variation is based not only in mediums used, but also genre, from fine oil paintings to pop culture/comic book art. You’ll also find images from various anime (such as Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion) and many computer games. If you want something different, if you want something fresh, mind boggling and shocking, get this book! It will also appeal to any artist out there who wants to experiment and learn from a master who has quite easily proven that he is not limited in any manner, physically or mentally. |
How explicit is this? I don’t mind nudity or violence by themselves, but does this go into anything like explicit actions? I know it might seem like a double standard of sorts, but I was hoping to get one of teradas books without going off the deep-end.
Hello Ike
TBH while it is quite graphic (showing various male and female body parts) and suggestive imagery, it is not as overt as Rakugaking, his other more hefty tome/artbook. This also has more colour work within it.
Nothing explicit, just one or two images that are suggestive.
Cool. Thanks a ton.
