I decided to post this here because it merges two interests of mine, and may be of interest to others:

Mark Leonard Watts
Auckland Festival of Photography: As a Hero of Nippon
Satellite Gallery presents an exhibition of photos by Mark Leonard Watts on display as a part of the sixth Auckland Festival of Photography from June 2nd – 13th 2009.
This series draws on the stereotypical heroes of Japanese society; the idolized beautiful young girl and, soldier of the economy, the salary-man.
Influenced by Japanese anime, Watts’ unique style of self portraiture suggests a desire to live vicariously through the heroes’ image.
Enjoyable and intellectual, this humorous work is laced with deeper questions and considerations, fleshing out his experiences of Japan and the continued exploration of his identity.

I will most definitely be checking this one out.
Very keen on this!
@Lesserbeing
Whoo hooo! Was beginning to think there were no anime fans out there who thought outside the square XD
Was lucky to have an in depth discussion with the artist. I really like it when I can see the ideas behind a piece.
I think he will be doing more of this in the future!
That is awesome! I’ve been meaning to go check it out before the exhibition ends; been too down in the dumps to really want to do much of anything *sighs* time to give myself a kick in the behind.
Well you’ve only got two days left! The exhibition itself is quite small so I ended up spending roughly half the time talking to Mark. Although depending on where you live it might be hassle to get there.
Hi, I came upon this very late but I hope you got to see my show. I still have a few pieces in the gallery stock room (where I now work) so if you are interested in seeing the work and talking about pop in.
