I’ve had quite a few people asking me how my new Nikon D90 camera is going, and even more asking to see photos.
I find it heartening to know that people are interested in this camera, it’s a pleasure to be able to share my interests with like minded individuals
Just wish I could deliver!
I must stress, I am a complete newbie when it comes to more serious photography. All my life I’ve been a point n’ shooter, I’ve never understood (or wanted to understand) the technicalities of taking great photos. So the photos I am taking right now are all test shots. Nothing to write home about and definitely not worth sharing!
Figuring out how to use the camera is also a learning curve; not steep, but slow. I think it would be easier if I had someone on hand to show me the ropes (I mean, I struggled to get the lens hood off, small stuff like that!) but I really don’t want to get stuck in “auto programmed” mode.
For the sake of my sanity, and to appease a few of you, I’ve taken photos using my new camera of my most recent cross stitch stash haul.
When I was editing them for web use, I was truly impressed at how they looked at 100% in Photoshop. No noise what so ever!!!
They were shot in JPEG mode too, not in RAW (for the testing phase, sticking to JPEG, when I go serious, RAW.)
On the point n’ shoot, at 100%, the noise was scarily obvious.
Comparing these four photos to the other stash photos I have taken, even at this reduced size, I can visibly see the difference in quality… can you?
Some rare Just Nan finds here, mainly the limited edition show exclusive Peter Cottontail, and the Country Crafts Exclusive Anniversary Biscornu. Showing too the second set of Holiday fairy kits by Nora Corbett that I received, and am going to sell once I get my for sale/trade page sorted.
And yes, more stash still to come…
I had a wee play on photoshop with my own photos and had found closeups, like my cross stitch looks pretty good zoomed into 100%, but normal point in shoot had alot of noise zoomed up.
I’m not very good at seeing diffences, but can see the sharper lines etc.
@Mysti
The colour and the clarity I guess is a lot better with the dSLR and just the fact that I was working with a higher quality image all up was refreshing
A lot of photos I see of cross stitch is usually really dark, too much flash and not enough detail of the design itself. There is a lady on the LJ cross stitch comm who takes some really excellent photos of her work. You can see every level of detail, down to the fibres on each stitch! Beautiful photos.
I have alot of different settings on my camera, but haven’t worked them out. I think I’ve seen her photos, but personally I don’t like up close with cross stitch, they always look better further away:)
@Mysti
Aahhh see I am different, I enjoy looking at cross stitch from all angles, and there is a certain beauty seeing cross stitch close up like that
It really brings out the colours and the textures.
@Zeb
you changed your pic:P I need to find a better one.
Clarity of image and colour is definitely better with these images.
@Mysti
I did but yours is still far clearer than mine!
@Lesserbeing
Check out the kitty pic in the Around & About gallery!
@Zeb
ok, hmm. Still, I want a nicer pic of him, not too fond of that one.
