Coffee and Cuddles by Margaret Sherry

Today was the NZ Flickr Meetup group’s city walk here in Auckland, and I had every intention of going despite feeling exceptionally anti-social; but family has a funny way of stopping even the best laid of plans.
Thankfully they didn’t need me for the evening, so I was able to attend the dinner of a friend and fellow LJer/cross stitcher Cytrix; then catch the Star Trek movie at the IMAX.

We ate at a place called Monsoon Poon, and as much as I would dearly love to say I enjoyed it, I just didn’t. The food was sub-standard considering what we paid. It just didn’t zing or do anything for me. If I am going to pay that much again, I am going to insist on going to places like Jervois, the Mezze, heck even Sushi Train would have been better.
The biggest dissapointment was the dessert (of all things!) instead of a Chocolate Butterscotch Fudge Cake with Raspberry Gelato, all I got was a slightly dry slice of chocolate cake and a small scoop of sugary ice cream.
The final insult? I felt SICK afterwards. Sick enough to want to vomit.

Recovered (a little) after a pit stop at the ladies in Borders… washing up, I looked at myself in the mirror and realised I was so pale, my lips were berry red against the palor of my skin. For me to go that pale, with my skin colour? Scary.

It was Cytrix’s birthday recently and I stitched her gift; this will be my first completed cross stitch for 2009. This is a Margaret Sherry design called ‘Coffee & Cuddles’ from issue #198 of the British Cross Stitcher magazine.
It’s a series of 4 cats in coffee mugs, but I decided to stitch this one cat and do it up as a coaster. She loves Margaret Sherry and she loves cats, but I am not sure if she liked it or not ^_^;

Just a few things… I am reminded once again how much I hate stitching fractionals on aida; and this was 18 count aida too, which made it all the much worse. It had to be that small so I could get the design to fit into the coaster, whiskers n’ all… but gah! While I like how this turned out, there are just some things about the stitching I am not happy with.
Oh well, lessons learned.

As for Star Trek the movie? Loved it! ^_^
Then again, anything with Chris Pine and Karl Urban is good! Great night other than the Monsoon Poon incident, had a fun time :)

    Oh boo! I lovedddddd the coaster. It is freaking adorable and totally saves my bookcase from all the cups of tea I shove on it!

    @Cytrix
    LOL! You do that too!?!? I have some Masamune Shirow coasters that virtually live on my bookshelves because I am always setting cups of tea down on them when ever I scope out the shelves for something to read or watch XD

    YAY! SO GLAD you liked it! Sometimes I feel scared about gifting stuff like this to people; I’ve had a case where it wasn’t appreciated!

    I know exactly how much time and effort goes into cross stitch so I am always going to appreciate it. And when it’s obvious you put much thought into it (I mean come on, Margaret sherry cats? In a mug? <3 <3 <3 <33333 you hit my weak spot, especially as I love her grey/black cats the most) it makes it more than special!
