Unboxing my Nikon D90

My timing today has so far been impeccable. For the last week I’ve set my alarm clock to wake me at 6.30AM, but alas the cold has forced me to stay in bed (thats my excuse, and I’m sticking to it!) This morning was different…

Woke up, showered, dried my hair, dressed, got the laundry done… and as I was walking downstairs to make a cuppa tea an hour later, I saw the Courier van park outside the house.

I knew exactly what they were delivering.
My new Nikon D90 camera! Yay! :D

Forgot about the tea (unheard of for me, I know) and raced upstairs to unpack the box. The following are photos of the unboxing, and hopefully the last time I’ll have to use a point n’ shoot!

Can we say “Happy Zeb?” Yes we can!
I can’t wait to start trying everything out, but I want to be methodical about this. Read the manuals, get the battery charged up and work out whether the software is worth using or not.

There is an good user guide over at Ken Rockwell’s site which I’ll be referencing too, and I also have the knowledgeable and friendly advice of the people over at the nz.flickr.meetups.[nzfm] group.

Right, off to make that cuppa tea, and get on with the fun!

p.s. all the gear was bought at Photo & Video International. A Christchurch based store with an excellent website. Highly recommend them, and they do next day courier track n trace shipping too.

    I wanna see the HD video pics…do some shots of that little bit of water behind your house ;-)

  2. Khalid Naseem says:

    You’ll enjoy this camera. Congrats on a great purchase.

    Will do :)
    First need to figure out how to use the thing! And I am actually really glad I went with this option, cheaper than the Nikon D300 but still the same great imaging as the D300, all good imho! And at a bloody good price compared to some of the “deals” I’ve seen offered locally.

  4. Khalid Naseem says:

    Where did you buy it from? BTW I love Lowepro products.

    ooo I like opening parcels:D So exciting to see the goodies inside:D Sounds like you will have great fun with that camera:D

    Photo & Video International, I updated the post with a link to them. They were super friendly and helpful. The camera with the lens kit alone were way cheaper than any non-parallel imported enterprise here in Auckland.
    I like Lowepro too, but I think Crumpler is more snazzy ;)
    I want to get a tripod and a backpack at some stage too.

    @Mysti
    Thanks Mysti! Lots of fun ONCE I know how to use it. It’s still sitting on my bed. I keep glancing over at it and staring at it in awe. Kinda scared to actually use it now XD

    Ooooh … pretty!! New toys are so much fun :D

    I’m so going to be dragging you along to horse shows now!

  8. Lesserbeing says:

    Just checked that site out and yeah your right. They are cheaper than most places in Auckland!

  9. Zeb says:

    @Lythinae
    Squee! I love your horsey gravatar! XD
    LOL Problem with horse shows is you need fast lens, and fast shutter speed; don’t think this baby would be fast enough for some of the action shots; and I can’t afford THAT kinda glass (yet!)

    @Lesserbeing
    Where do you normally buy from? I think for emergencies I’ll probably still go to places like Auckland Camera, but yeah, for the really expensive stuff it’ll either be Photo & Video International, or another online store a photographer mate recommended to me; http://www.flashcards.co.nz/
