Cross Stitching Update and Book Fun

Just a quick update, so you know I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth. :)

I’ve been busy stitching a secret squirrely design for a Fantasy themed exchange I am taking part in; and while it isn’t due to be posted until mid-July, I thought I’d get it stitched and out of the way, just in case my life gets really hectic (i.e. I get a job and might need to move cities) and I don’t have time closer to the mailing date.

I haven’t quite decided how to finish it yet… sort of going back and forth between a needlebook or a simple ornament. The design is 60×60, so it doesn’t really give me many options. Just need to get the back stitching done now.
Will share photos when the recipient has received it, obviously :)

Currently trying to decide what to stitch next; and right now it’s a toss up between two Just Nan designs; Quilted Bear or Peacock Tapestry.
I am finding that sometimes having too much choice is not a good thing. So many many pretty things to stitch!

Speaking of Just Nan, have started a rather ambitious project. Nan Caldera has been designing for a very very long time, and finding some of her older designs is almost impossible; or superbly expensive (the seller has another copy available and I am going to try win it, but hopefully it won’t go that high!) Heck finding information alone is difficult enough and I am constantly discovering new designs of hers that aren’t listed on her site.
With some consultation from the lovely members over at the Just Nan Junction (if you’re a fan of Just Nan, you really should join!) I have started work on the Just Nan Design List.
It is a work in progress, and I need heaps more information. If you can help, I’d really appreciate it!

In other less stitchygeek news, Doujin Overload is just around the corner and if you’re an anime or manga fan, and will be in Auckland at the time, you really should check it out!
The site has an artist table layout that links to the DeviantArt sites for most of the attending artists. Check em out to see the variety of art and skill level that will be on show.

I shall leave you with the following lines from one of the books on my reading pile:

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.”
- Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen & Seth Grahame-Smith.

If you haven’t picked this book up yet, get it! I haven’t had such a good giggle from a book in quite a while, and it is lovely to see some of my favourite characters re-imagined and yet still being true to themselves. :)

    I love zombies, and I love Jane Austen, so it’s a bit of a given that I’m going to have to read this book!

    Yes yes you are! It is mucho hilarious too, and dear Mr. Darcy gets away with some rather inappropriate lines too ;)

    Or maybe not …

    Wasn’t going to go to DO initially but some late additions to the roster have changed my mind. ;)

    Wow, I can’t believe that Queen of the Needle case went for so much! I’d love to have one of those kits, but I have a self imposed limit when buying designs, no matter how hard to get they may be.

    I’m taking part in the same fantasy exchange as you. I can’t wait to see what you’ve stitched, and for who. I’ve got a piece done, but I still haven’t decided if that is what I will send my recipient. I’ve got a couple of other ideas. I always have such a hard time deciding!

    Hehehe it works it works Selina! Just takes a bit of time is all ;)

    @Lesserbeing
    Am glad to see that you’re going! I go every year; even if there aren’t many artists that strike my fancy that year, I just enjoy the atmosphere and catching up with people.

    @Silverlotus
    Ooohh now I’m curious, whats your username on the board! :D
    I’ve got a couple ideas on what extras to send, making it as kiwi as possible but still something they can “use.”

    aaaargh, don’t talk about DO. I have an exam next week ;_;

    …heh. And my sister is now planning to cash in on that book by writing zombie Mills & Boon

  8. I love Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, and m desperately hoping there will be a new zombified version of Emma before too long. Zombies are somehow fresher than vampires, if you’ll pardon the pun. Look out for Nekropolis, an accomplished slick of zombie-pulp-tec action by Tim Waggoner, coming soon from Angry Robot. Ignore this imprint’s tacky marketing, they have some interesting books.

    @Helen McCarthy
    Thanks for that, and will do although I think that might be an online order type jobby. Zombies definitely are “in” right now!
