Updates, stitchy things & Doujin Overload!

So I’ve been fairly silent on this blog for the last few weeks. There is a reason of course, and I shall try to explain…

Since losing my job, I have been under quite a bit of stress, and lets not talk about the depression. My depression manifests itself physically by emotional eating, and I have been eating, some very very bad things. It amazes me that I haven’t gained weight, thank god for my daily power walks.
On top of that I’ve had a sinus infection. All of this together meant that I’ve been having some very very bad migraines. So severe that I am still recovering from the last one, which was over a week ago.

I went to see my doctor last week and the consensus was I have dangerously high blood pressure and need to pull the line in asap.
Food is back under control (not hard, struggling to keep anything overly rich down) and I am trying to manage my stress levels, plus he’s got me on a blood pressure med.
Whee, my life is fun! Not ~_~

I’ve still been active though… and the interesting ones (to you) are:

* I’ve decided to try knitting again. I’ve never been able to get a hang of it, always messed it up… but now I am making a concerted effort to get knitting as a skill, under my belt. Eventually the plan is to knit myself a rainbow coloured scarf, and then a Gryffindor scarf. :)

* Been hanging out with friends a lot more, and need to reconnect with a few more too. Need to stop being such a hermit!
Went to Crafts out West, Harry Potter & and had my nails manicured in the last 4 days. Tomorrow I’ll be getting together with some mates for a pre-Doujin Overload catch up, and on Saturday, the event itself! The anti-social in me rebels, but once I’m out there doing these things, I feel so much better.

Went to visit Selina from Pretty Clever yesterday, and got a gorgeous manicure, before being swatched a few times and then getting to put on this gorgeous gorgeous ruby red nail polish. I’m not a girly girl by any stretch of the imagination, but I HAVE to have me summa this nail polish! It is called Ruby Pumps by China Glaze. Also known as ‘Ooooooh sparkly!’ :D

Excuse the short nails btw; I can never have them at any length for a long amount of time before I take a pair of shears to them. It’s the typing you see, can’t type fast with long nails!

* Finally received the three witches from Brooke’s Books. The little kits are just too cute for words. They come with all the material you need to complete each design, all you need to do is add the floss and metallic threads. The instructions are very clear and concise too, which will come in handy as these will be the first time I’ve ever stitched on perforated paper.

In other stitchy news, I completed my Fantasy exchange piece and mailed it off on Monday with an assortment of extras. I am pretty happy with how I finished the piece, except for one glaring issue, but hey, it was a first for me in many ways. Can’t share photos until my recipient has received it. Just hope she likes! :)

The trip to the Crafts our West fair (a weekend of crafting goodness, mainly exhibitors selling their wares ranging from quilting, scrapbooking, foods, beading and knitting) also gave me a brain spark. I’ve always been a bit iff about scrapbooking, never knew how useful it could be to me since I don’t have babies, my family really aren’t into the whole “keeping photos for memories” and the whole scrapbooking enterprise seemed to be just so expensive!
At the show I came across wee mini paper scrapbooks and the brain went DING! I want to create a wee scrapbook and fill it with all my finished cross stitch smalls that I stitched because I liked, but didn’t know HOW to finish. Waiting for all the supplies to arrive so I can get started. I know a few other cross stitchers scrapbook their work as well, must see more of their work! :D

* Last but definitely not least, if you are in Auckland this coming Saturday the 25th and have nothing better to do with your time, please come and check out Doujin Overload 2009. An event where fans of anime & manga come together to share and enjoy the wonderful art form.

When: Saturday 25th July
Where: Hyatt Hotel, Auckland Central, New Zealand
Time: 9AM to 4PM
Cost: FREE!

A group of us will be heading over to the Genzui Ramen Bar (in the main foyer of the Crowne Plaza, Albert Street) at 6ish to have dinner and chill out afterwards. If you haven’t got any plans come by and say hello!

    Can I join your group for the post-Doujin dinner? Sounds like fun.

    Will pass Love In Vein on to you on Saturday.

    Wooo DO! Can’t wait.

  2. Zeb says:

    @Kirsty
    Everyone is more than welcome, the more the merrier I say! Although advanced warning, there WILL be octopus balls eaten!!!! :P

    I am so excited about it too, if it’s half as fun as last year I’ll be pleased. :D

  3. Cytrix says:

    I would loveeeeee to come to Doujin, but I’ll be halfway through my big move, have my flatmate’s 25th on Saturday night plus I only have $25 to get me through until Wednesday! Wahhhhhhh

  4. ValHallen says:

    Z don’ fret about the bloood pressure meds .. I’m on em, and opiates at the moment …. mmmmm opiates o.O

  5. Zeb says:

    @Cytrix
    Really hope the move goes without any issues *hugs*
    And I hope that lock down was NOT because of swine flu!

    @ValHallen
    But I don’t want no more migraines like that. Trust me, pain like that, I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy! :(

  6. Cytrix says:

    @Zeb Nooo the lockdown was because of some armed offender guy running through our school. He had sniffer dogs and the police after him, so we all got to sit on the ground for half an hour in our classrooms hahah.

  7. Zeb says:

    @Cytrix
    Oooohh… your twitters confused me! I don’t know if I should say “Thank god!” or not though, cause thats still kinda scary… but exciting too :P
    Ah my girl, your life is way more interesting than mine!

  8. Kirsty says:

    @Zeb

    I’m not a fan of the octopus balls (watching people eating them amuses me however) … though I think Erik ended up having some last year, he liked them. Other things on the menu I like though.

  9. Lythinae says:

    Oooooh … shiny nails. I *love* that colour! It looks so gorgeous against your skin tone :D

    Bah. Was hoping to get Saturday morning off, but I can’t say I’m surprised that neither workmate will cover for me (both of them have given me absolutely bullshit reason to … if you don’t want to then fine, but don’t lie about it god).

    *hugs* Understand the hermit thing. Being nice and social is requiring to much effort right now.

  10. Lythinae says:

    @Kirsty
    This place is *amazing*. Everything I’ve had so far has been really good (and cheap too, which is always a bonus :D )

  11. Lythinae says:

    Oh BTW – pretty sure Mum wouldn’t mind helping with knitting and stuff. She’s really good at it. Heh. maybe I should try to??

  12. Zeb says:

    @Lythinae
    You so should give it a go! It doesn’t have to be about making old fashioned or baby stuff either :P
    I mean how cool would it be to have our own Gryffindor scarves!!!

    Really sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it for the morning; and you’d better not do THEM any favours in the future either *growls*
    On the plus side though, I think after my initial rush through in there I’ll probably find a quiet corner somewhere to read and relax. There is only so much you can see, and since I am sticking to just getting originals this year, I hope I’ll have gotten everything I want in the first hour :P

    And you are not allowed to be anti-social wench, it was so good to hang out with you last week :)

    p.s. the photo really doesn’t do this polish justice. It has such a gorgeous depth and is packed with glitter! Selina is going to be getting me a bottle, and I am so putting some on you cause you’d look HOT with it… ok, well, MORE hotter ;)

    See you tomorrow, 9.30AM sharp!

  13. Lythinae says:

    @Zeb

    LOL pretty sure Mum would enjoy teaching me now. I mostly beyond throwing it acroos the room when it won’t do as it’s told :D She made this awesome pony jumper for me when I first started riding and I think we still have it somewhere. Will dig it out and show you.

    Heh … one of them has ‘uni’ and the other a horse show – of a type that finished it’s season in May. I know this because it WHAT I DO. She changed it when I asked for details. *sigh* Screw favours, I’ll be leaving soon … I hope anyway, if other stuff goes to plan.

    I’m hoping there’ll still be some original stuff left by the time I get there! Saying that … if there’s not then I won’t be spending money I don’t have :D

    Polish on my nails! LOL they’re all chewed and horrible looking right now!

  14. Selina says:

    @Lythinae
    You should totally come over with Zeb for a manicure, I can fix chewed and horrible AND I have a huge range of colours to play with. Just ask Zeb :D

  15. Lesserbeing says:

    I’d go for a Ravenclaw scarf. :)

  16. Lythinae says:

    @Lesserbeing
    I’d probably do the same thing tbh :D

  17. Mysti says:

    (((hugs))) hope you get better soon. Good luck with the knitting, I’m not very good at it. I can do normal stitch and pearl, but thats it. When it comes to changing the colour, I’m all like what??

  18. Glad to hear you are treating yourself with love and attention! And good luck with the knitting. I’m the only female member of my family who can’t knit, but then I’m the only one who embroiders so I have something to do with my hands at family gatherings – and my craft of choice is quieter! Sometimes when my four sisters and a few cousins are all knitting together you can’t hear anything but the clicking. I’ve often thought it would make a sensational sample, if only I could find a tune to go with it.

  19. Selina says:

    @Helen McCarthy
    The sound of clicking needles takes me back to holidays spent with my grandparents, in the evening after all her chores were done my grandmother would always sit down with her knitting. Often I’d join her too.

  20. Lori says:

    Hey Zeb, I sure hope you’re feeling better…you can email me anytime. I did received your most recent email with the picture attachment…um, where did that come from missy? lol…seriously is she going to have that anytime soon I wonder? Hang in there…keep me posted!

  21. Lythinae says:

    @Selina

    I might just have to take you up on that …. my nails are hideous!!

  22. Selina says:

    @Lythinae
    You are most welcome to come on over – just bowl along with Zeb :)

  23. Andie says:

    *big hugs* So sorry to hear that you have not been well and are having issues with high blood pressure! That is NOT fun!! You should see my nails….. they haven’t seen polish for years LOL I love the above pictures….. especially one of the mermaids by Dancing Feather…. WOW!!
