Welcome to the Wonderful World of Artbooks!
“An artbook collects together images from a specific artist, group, story, medium. Used worldwide to show case quite often “the best” of work created. Artbooks are loved due to their ability to gather together images that appeal to fans & art lovers.”
I first discovered the world of anime/manga artbooks in 1999 when I picked up a copy of the ‘You’re Under Arrest File X’ artbook, for NZ$5 from a local comic book store. Puzzled by this strange presentation, but still delighted by the images contained within, I went away wondering how many more of these types of books existed. Logging onto the internet, I was quickly hooked.
In the anime/manga sense, an artbook is a collection of artwork on a particular title, or by a particular artist. This can be in the standard “book” form or in portfolios, CDROM, postcard collections, boxed sets & other forms of marketing. Quite often they will contain, full colour pieces, sketches, & novelty items such as cards, stickers and posters.
I love artbooks because they allow me to properly enjoy the gorgeous artwork of artists and/or series that I like. Manga, and hence the artwork, has always been most preferred by me (above anime) so an artbook is the epitome of this form. This artbook collection review section exists primarily to:
This is an artbook review site, and a catalogue of the artbooks I own. This is not a list of artbooks I am selling and nor am I an online store. Also remember, I have listed all the artbooks I own on the To Do page, it shows you just how many I have left to review!
