Wellington Armageddon 08 & a holiday

Wellington Armageddon 08 & a holiday
I love holidays, so much so that when I go on them I selfishly gaurd my time and only use it for the things that I want to do! So when I booked my flights to Wellington I advised Bill that as far as Wellington Armageddon was concerned, I was happy to judge and run the AMV competition, but thats about it. The convention itself was average. I am sorry to say but this year it just wasn’t all that great compared to previous years Only star I really wanted to see was Lisa Furakawa and even then I just couldn’t go gaga over her like some other anime fans I know (but then again, these guys are...

Trash to Manga

Something that amuses me greatly. As an occasional follower of trashy romances (usually read when my brain requires NON-intelligent, amusing entertainment) I was tickled pink when I learned that one of said trashy novels had been turned into a “manga.” I use the term manga loosely since it looks more like the Western idea of manga as opposed to something drawn by a Japanese manga-ka… but there you have it. Christine Feehan’s ‘Dark Hunger’ has been brought out in comic book format. I’ll be getting this, if only for the pure entertainment and novelty factor...

Original anime/manga art collecting…

Original anime/manga art collecting…
One of the things I always look for at the Armageddon events, is original anime/manga style artwork to buy. When I say “original” I usually mean the actual art itself, and not a print or photo copy. One of my secret addictions is collecting original artwork, I also love supporting local artists. Problem is, I am so picky about what I like and don’t like… something that isn’t helped by the fact that I have well over 350 anime/manga related artbooks and have a very good idea of the range of skills artists can have. My favourite artists include Masamune Shirow, CLAMP (in...

Auckland Anime Music Video Competition 2007

This year’s Auckland Armageddon 2007 Anime Music Video (AMV) competition saw a total of 28 entries submitted, with some entrants submitting 2 or more AMVs. Judging took place a week prior to the event (as mentioned on the Armageddon site) and just over 8 hours was taken to properly go over each AMV, and also check for information/confirmation/validity online. There were three judges, each with experience in AMV creation, gaming and anime. The number of entries pleased us greatly, and for the most part we were impressed with the general quality of the AMVs submitted. Unfortunately there can only...

Auckland Armageddon 2007

So, Auckland Armageddon 2007. It was really a mixed bag for me. On one side I enjoyed hanging out with friends, on the other I just wasn’t all that impressed by the guests or events that were on. The highlight for me was definitely the Anime Music Video (AMV) competition. Not because Kunfei, Nadea and I were judging them, but because of the huge response we received, and the fun people had during the event itself. I loved chatting with the creators afterwards too. More about the AMV comp in a bit. Met up with Nadea Friday afternoon and checked out the event centre. The Madman stall was well under...
