Radio New Zealand Podcast on Anime & Manga

A friend emailed me the link to the recent podcast about anime & manga in New Zealand, done by Radio New Zealand. It was an interesting listen and featured quite a few people I know, namely Dylan Horrocks, Seong from the GNC and Alex, a very well known cel collector! Stuff like this I like to share and track, because we very rarely get media attention on anime & manga here in NZ. Anime and Manga in NZ (MP3 File) In other news, Doujin Overload 2009 is only two weekends away! Kraft Bomb & a Bejewelled Bookmark
Yesterday, my friend Laura and I checked out Kraft Bomb. Kraft Bomb is a craft fair that caters to the more ecclectic and quirky crafting interests. You’ll find all sorts available for sale, from cupcakes, hand made books, jewellery, plushies, prints, stationary, the list goes on and on! Check out all the stall holder sites (linked off the Kraft Bomb blog’s link list) and also visit Toggle, which sells products by some of the stall holders online. They launched their first exhibition today and I am very very glad I attended. The photos were stunning, beautiful and surreal. Stuff I had admired in peoples’ Flickr albums, and new photos that just blew me away. I couldn’t name a favourite,...

As a Hero of Nippon

I decided to post this here because it merges two interests of mine, and may be of interest to others: Auckland Festival of Photography: As a Hero of Nippon Satellite Gallery presents an exhibition of photos by Mark Leonard Watts on display as a part of the sixth Auckland Festival of Photography from June 2nd – 13th 2009. This series draws on the stereotypical heroes of Japanese society; the idolized beautiful young girl and, soldier of the economy, the salary-man. Influenced by Japanese anime, Watts’ unique style of self portraiture suggests a desire to live vicariously through the...

For those of you who were unable to attend the July Doujin Overload event, Asia Downunder was there. Taking footage of the event itself, and covering anime & manga in general. The following is a nice little vid that aired recently on TV1.
