NZFM Photography Exhibition “Passion”

As some of you may know, I have recently taken a keen interest in photography. Some of the best and friendliest advice I have received, has been from the amazing people at the New Zealand Flickr Meetup group. A group of photographers in the wider-Auckland area who get together and share events that may present photographic oppurtunities to members. They launched their first exhibition today and I am very very glad I attended. The photos were stunning, beautiful and surreal. Stuff I had admired in peoples’ Flickr albums, and new photos that just blew me away. I couldn’t name a favourite,...

Camera Update & Photos

Camera Update & Photos
I’ve had quite a few people asking me how my new Nikon D90 camera is going, and even more asking to see photos. I find it heartening to know that people are interested in this camera, it’s a pleasure to be able to share my interests with like minded individuals Just wish I could deliver! I must stress, I am a complete newbie when it comes to more serious photography. All my life I’ve been a point n’ shooter, I’ve never understood (or wanted to understand) the technicalities of taking great photos. So the photos I am taking right now are all test shots. Nothing to write...

Unboxing my Nikon D90

Unboxing my Nikon D90
My timing today has so far been impeccable. For the last week I’ve set my alarm clock to wake me at 6.30AM, but alas the cold has forced me to stay in bed (thats my excuse, and I’m sticking to it!) This morning was different… Woke up, showered, dried my hair, dressed, got the laundry done… and as I was walking downstairs to make a cuppa tea an hour later, I saw the Courier van park outside the house. I knew exactly what they were delivering. My new Nikon D90 camera! Yay! Forgot about the tea (unheard of for me, I know) and raced upstairs to unpack the box. The following are...

Book Worm Strikes!

Quick update today, brain is too caught up with reading books on photography, and I don’t want to devote much to online time. I am in love with this man’s photography. If the Matrix existed, I would plug into him and try to capture even a tiny amount of his knowledge, skill and genius. Received 3 photography books from Book Depository yesterday. Free worldwide shipping btw, and excellent prices. Highly recommend this online store if you’re as sick of Amazon as I am. Got these books: Understanding Shutter Speed by Bryan Peterson The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby The Digital...

As a Hero of Nippon

I decided to post this here because it merges two interests of mine, and may be of interest to others: Auckland Festival of Photography: As a Hero of Nippon Satellite Gallery presents an exhibition of photos by Mark Leonard Watts on display as a part of the sixth Auckland Festival of Photography from June 2nd – 13th 2009. This series draws on the stereotypical heroes of Japanese society; the idolized beautiful young girl and, soldier of the economy, the salary-man. Influenced by Japanese anime, Watts’ unique style of self portraiture suggests a desire to live vicariously through the...
